Fans of spectacular scenery, come discover the many facets of Oëtre Rock, a mineral feature surrounded by vegetation. From the bottom of the rock, take the hiking paths through the cool, shady forest. Budding acrobats can take to the trees for a dizzying adventure, and from the top of the rock you can admire the Rouvre gorges and the winding river raging below.
Amid the tranquillity of nature
This spectacular site in the Rouvre gorges is the perfect wilderness in which to feel at one with nature. Come and admire this beautifully chaotic, craggy landscape, home to some remarkable plants and wildlife, including otters and freshwater pearl mussels. From the top of Oëtre Rock, admire the amazing view over the Rouvre gorges, and imagine just how boldly the gushing torrent carves its way through, offering an incredible panorama right in the middle of Norman Switzerland. From the lookout point, you may notice the shape of a human face sculpted into the rocky spur by a natural geological phenomenon and appearing to watch over the valley… or is it just our imagination?
Hiking to the Oëtre Rock panoramic viewpoint
Nature lovers, take to the trails across the Rouvre gorges to admire the beauty of the local landscape. Around you, look for those rare gems of protected plant life such as the small white flowers of the spring spergula. The Oëtre Rock tourist information office can offer advice on the various routes into the heart of Normandy’s splendid forests. At the top of the Rock, visit the gallery or pop into the shop for a typical souvenir or gift from Normandy, made by local artisans!

La Vélo Francette
A sporting challenge and spectacular scenery…
Well worth the effort required to reach the Oëtre Rock, rising to 118 metres to offer an exceptional panoramic view over the wooded Rouvre gorges, a listed “sensitive natural area” in the heart of Europe’s oldest mountains. The country lanes are pleasant, if a little steep, on your way to the château of Flers, then the station.
