Presentation
Take a little detour to see the Buat Tower, something unique in Normandy, a remnant of the French communications system in the early 1800s, and designed by Claude Chappe in 1794.
CHAPPE telegraphy is based on the principle of visual communication over long distances, transmitted by a system of articulated arms along a line of stations set up every 10km.
The Buat Tower was built with local materials: the walls are made of flint, with a quicklime and sand coating, using typical materials from Pays d'Ouche.
Chappe Telegraph Day: 1st Sunday in June.
